The services below are at no cost to College of Engineering community members. Software/service costs may apply.

Network & Connectivity Management

  • Domain Name Registration (internal)
  • Register a ucdavis.edu or Engineering sub-domain domain name. 

    Features/Benefits: Registration includes only *.ucdavis.edu, *.engineering.ucdavis.edu, *.cs.ucdavis.edu, *.ece.ucdavis.edu domain names. Other domain names must be registered by user. 

    Fulfillment: 5-8 business days

    Request Service

  • Firewall Exception Request
  • Create a firewall exception for a given port to the outside Internet (no VPN needed).

    Features/Benefits: Access a service through the firewall without the need of the COE VPN.

    Fulfillment: 5-8 business days

    Request Service

  • Network Access
  • Register device to receive a static IP for physical wired network access in COE supported rooms or access to the COE VPN.

    Features/Benefits: Once registered, your device will be able to connect to a College of Engineering network. COE VPN allow remote access to COE IT resources and networks. 

    Get Started: For network access, submit the Network Registration Request form by clicking Register Your Device. For COE VPN access, visit https://kb.ucdavis.edu/?id=10900

    Fulfillment: 4 business days which may require a physical on-site appointment to inspect the space.

    Registration requires a university-owned computer, the fulfillment of a COE Network Registration Form, and the confirmed installation of Bigfix on the system. A NAM (Ethernet port) may need to be activated for a one-time cost at the current CR rate if no NAM is available nearby or a network switch ) purchased by the PI. If no NAM exists in the room,see NAM Activation Service Name

    Register Your Device

  • Network Access Module (NAM) Activation
  • Activate and or install a NAM for network usage.

    Fulfillment: 3 business days to submit request to Communication Resources. Actual fulfillment performed by Communication Resources. Time frame varies based on needs, room configurations, and availability of existing horizontal wiring in the building. 

    Request Service

  • VOIP/Telephone Services
  • Each department on campus has an Authorized Telecommunications Representative (ATR) that is responsible for communications services. ATRs can access service request forms to order/change/disconnect telecommunications services, and download electronic telecommunications statements.

    Features/Benefits:
    - Order, change, or disconnect telecommunications services.
    - Download electronic telecommunication statements.

    Fulfillment: 3 business days to submit the request, fulfillment depends on Communication Resources availability.

    Request Service

  • Web Address Redirection
  • Redirection of domains to college managed resources. 

    Fulfillment: IT staff will act on these requests as time permits. No guarantee of time to resolution.

The services below include cost recovery for IT staff time. Quotes must be approved before work begins.

Data Center Services

  • Archival Storage
  • California Digital Library - Dryad service or custom solution.

    Fulfillment: 5 business days response time to schedule consultation meeting. Estimate given after consultation.

    Request Service

Server & Storage Management

  • Network Attached Storage (NAS Synology)
  • Work with IT to quote out a rack-mounted Synology stored in our COE server room to back up and store your research data. Initial secure configuration of NAS device and ongoing management (patching/security updates, support of drive failures, mounting, power failure response, group management/access control).

    Fulfillment: 5 business days response time to schedule consultation meeting. Estimate given after consultation is complete, which may be multiple meetings.

  • Network Router, Firewall, or Wireless Access Point
  • Procure, configure, and deploy IT managed network equipment for a specialized facility or lab.

    Fulfillment: 5 business days response time to schedule consultation meeting. Estimate given after consultation is complete, which may be multiple meetings.
