Keeping Macs Up to Date

For our Mac users, keeping your macOS version up to date is essential. Updates for macOS often contain critical security patches, meaning that an unpatched macOS could contain known, critical vulnerabilities that put your data and identity—and our campus-wide cybersecurity—at risk.

Starting on April 3, 2023, we will introduce a new approach to updating Macs managed by COE IT. We will prompt Mac users to install system updates within 7 days from the time Apple releases an update. Updates can be deferred up to the 7-day deadline, with more frequent reminders as the deadline approaches.

We will only prompt for minor version updates, such as from macOS 12.5 to 12.6 or 12.6 to 12.6.1. We will not prompt for major version updates, such as from macOS Monterey 12 to macOS Ventura 13.
